The Youth Work Unit for Yorkshire and the Humber co-ordinates all Youth Voice activity at a regional level. With funding from the British Youth Council we bring together all forms of youth representatives – councillors, advisors, inspectors and Members of UK Youth Parliament – for 3 regional conventions, to attend the annual UKYP sitting and House of Commons debate. With additional match funding from our LAs we hold extra meetings, an additional event on the national UKYP campaign area, a residential induction weekend in April and work on regional campaigns such as transport and Young Carer’s card.
As part of this we also co-ordinate termly meetings of the Youth Voice key workers, this replaced our Participation Workers network, and offers practice sharing eg on the Youth Voice vehicle self assessments, and on local work, planning conventions and training etc.
In 2012 we launched our Young People’s steering group which is made up of a young person from each LA areas and this group meets together to plan and lead all Youth Voice work in the region.
