Government’s draft report to the UN is a missed opportunity

The Government’s next report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, due in January 2014, should tell the UN how well the UK has implemented the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Department for Education held a short consultation on its draft report, which ended on 22 November 2013.

The Children's Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) drafted a response to the Government's report on behalf of the NGO (England) children’s rights steering group: Action for Children, British Youth Council, Children England, CRAE, National Children’s Bureau, NSPCC, Save the Children, The Children’s Society and UNICEF UK. The response is also supported by Barnardo’s, Child Soldiers International, Inquest, National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, National Youth Agency, Summerhill School and Women’s Aid Federation for England.
